MPRIG is a huge part of this. For the past three years MPRIG has been working on a campaign to educate college students about the realities of global free trade, and the advantages of the alternative trade model, fair trade. Peace Coffee thinks MPRIG rocks! THE INSTITUTE FOR AGRICULTURE AND TRADE POLICY www.iatp.org Without IATP, Peace Coffee would not exist. They incubated us in the basement of their building to show that a fair trade coffee company could be successful. With their help we have grown into a model fair trade business. BIRCHWOOD CAFE www.birchwoodcafe.com The Birchwood Cafein Minneapolis is one part funky coffee house, one part neighborhood cafe, and two parts eclectic organic kitchen. They share a commitment with Peace Coffee to bring people closer to the farmers who grow their delicious ingredients and produce our rich coffee. The Birchwood also has a bike team that does weekly rides along the Mississippi River. Peace Coffee is one of the team sponsors. IZZY'S ICE CREAM www.izzysicecream.com Izzy's Ice Cream is located in St. Paul and more recently they have opened a cafe in downtown Mpls. They have been mixing batches of Guatemalan Peace Coffee Ice Cream for the last three years. It's a wildly popular flavor and obviously our favorite. TOWN HALL BREWERY www.townhallbrewery.com The Town Hall Brewery is located on the West Bank near the University of Minnesota. They offer creative and super tasty beers. In 2004 they worked with Peace Coffee to produce Black Snow, an incredible blend of coffee and beer. It was so popular that they are going to do it again. They are people committed to nonviolence and led by faith and conscience. Their mission is to support peace, justice and sustainable economies in the Americas by changing US policies and corporate practices which contribute to poverty and oppression in Latin America and the Caribbean. T.J Semanchin, Peace Coffee's Roaster, went on a Witness for Peace delegation to Colombia in 2004. He experienced first hand the effects of US Foreign Policy on the conflict in Colombia. GLOBAL EXCHANGE www.globalexchange.org Global Exchange is an international human rights organization dedicated to promoting environmental, political and social justice. They are located in the Bay Area but their works spans the globe. They are strong advocates for corporate accountability and big proponents of fair trade. UNITED STUDENTS FOR FAIR TRADE www.usft.org USFT is a national network of student organizations advocating around Fair Trade products, policies, and principles. The core objective of USFT is to raise the awareness of and expand the demand for Fair Trade alternatives, both on campuses and in communities. Peace Coffee is proud to work with students on campuses across the Midwest, to promote the increase of fair trade education and products in their classes, cafes and cafeterias. FAIR TRADE RESOURCE NETWORK www.fairtraderesource.org The FTRN works to raise consumer awareness about improving people's lives through Fair Trade alternatives. They are a phenomenal source for research & data about fair trade. They have lots of great information for student groups who want to bring fair trade products onto their campus. Every year they help organize World Fair Trade Day of which Peace Coffee has always participated in. OXFAM www.oxfamamerica.org Oxfam America is a Boston-based international development and relief agency and an affiliate of Oxfam International. Working with local partners, Oxfam delivers development programs and emergency relief services, and campaigns for change in global practices and policies that keep people in poverty. ORGANIC CONSUMER ASSOCIATION (OCA) www.organicconsumers.org The OCA is a grassroots non-profit public interest organization which deals with crucial issues of food safety, industrial agriculture, genetic engineering, corporate accountability, and environmental sustainability. Over the last few years OCA and its members have put a lot of pressure on Starbucks to offer fair trade coffee and hormone free milk. They recently launched a great campaign called Breaking the Chains of mindless and self-destructive consumerism.
